Dr. Alice Beck Kehoe attended Barnard College and Harvard University, from which she received her PhD in Anthropology. Dr. Kehoe taught at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln before teaching at Marquette University, from which she retired in 2000 as Professor Emeritus.
 
Kehoe has studied many aspects of Native America and is a strong believer in the theoretical link between the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex (SECC) (of the Native southeastern U.S.) and Mesoamerica (Mexico and Central America).

While he is away pillaging, his parents come to his castle. His wife receives them warmly and unwittingly offers them her bed. When Julian comes home the stag's prediction reaches its inevitable, tragic fulfillment. In his grief, Julian becomes a beggar, seeking degradation in every form and doing good works for the poor, which include building a hospice and inns. The story is beautifully written, in a style that is formal without being overly lyrical or stagily archaic. The fable-like narrative won't be for everyone, but those interested in the lives of the saints will enjoy this imaginative tale.

Jay H. Withgott is a science and environmental writer with a background in scientific research and teaching. He holds degrees from Yale University, University of Arkansas, and University of Arizona. As a researcher, he has published scientific papers on topics in ecology, evolution, animal behavior, and conservation biology in a variety of journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Proceedings of the Royal Society of London B, Evolution, and Animal Behavior. Scott has cultivated his expertise in environmental science and public policy by serving as Campaign Director of Alaskans for Responsible Mining, as Executive Conservation Fellow of the National Parks Conservation Association in Washington, D.C., and as a consultant to the U.S. Department of Defense Environmental Security Office at the Pentagon

 

When not at work, Scott is likely to be found exploring Alaska’s Chugach Mountains and the Bristol Bay drainages in Southwest Alaska. He lives with his wife, Angela, and their dogs Raven and Hatcher in South Central Alaska’s Chester Creek Watershed.
